“If you read the biographies of people who have written good books, you often see the point where they suddenly come into themselves, and those weeks in the spring of 1997 were when I came into myself as a writer. They feel like some of the best weeks of writing I’ll ever have. The discovery that I could write better about something as trivial as an ordinary family dinner than I could about the exploding prison population of the United States, and the corporatization of American life, and all the other things I’d been trying to do, was a real revelation.” —Jonathan Franzen

with the night falling we are saying thank you
we are stopping on the bridges to bow from the railings
we are running out of the glass rooms
with our mouths full of food to look at the sky
and say thank you”

I think it’ll be a long long time before I lose any enthusiasm for hosting college slams. Y’all absolutely rocked it and showed such incredible bravery on Wednesday night. It was an honor to be there and I had a blast! Thank YOU!

Well, if this wasn’t one of the best messages I’ve ever woken up to

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I can’t stop and I won’t.

Hey there! Thanks for the love and questions.

1) feelings. all of the feelings. A general belief that the world is not as pretty as it could be and sometimes that’s the best thing the world has going for it.

2) I work, live and love music so this is a really tough question to answer. But right now I really love the song “Methuselah” by San Fermin. I also am currently obsessed with “Don’t Wake Me Up” by Lianne La Havas.

3) Another tough question! I loved Kerouac’s “Big Sur.” “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” is up there as well, so is “Crush” by Richard Siken. I could go on forever about this one though.

4) 11PM or 1AM.

Cheers, stranger!
